In a small corner of Tanay, Rizal, hope arrived in the form of a warm meal, a simple toy, and a promise of brighter days ahead. At Rawang Elementary School last December 13, 2024, RC Makati, in partnership with Kabisig ng Kalahi, launched its fifth Complementary Nutrition Program for the rotary year—a heartfelt mission to address malnutrition and inspire change in the lives of 60 malnourished children aged 3 to 10.
The laughter of children echoed across the school grounds as they gathered for a day dedicated to their well-being. The program, championed by PP Freddie and Jojo Borromeo, was more than just a feeding activity; it was a lifeline for young learners whose potential is often stifled by the limitations of poverty. With the steadfast support of Pres. Keith Harrison who highlighted the transformative impact of proper nutrition, expressing optimism that the program would pave the way for healthier and more joyful families. Meanwhile, PP JunJun Dayrit, stressed the initiative’s comprehensive approach to nurturing the well-being of the country’s future leaders and Ms. Kissha Mae Bazar of Kabisig ng Kalahi, the initiative proved that collective action can pave the way for healthier, happier communities.
During the event, PP Freddie spoke passionately about the broader goal of the program: empowering mothers with the skills to prepare affordable, nutritious meals and equipping families with the tools to break free from the cycle of malnutrition. “Sometimes, all it takes is a small push—like a jeepney ascending a steep hill—to help families move toward a brighter future,” he shared, drawing a poignant metaphor that resonated with the audience.
The event includes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between RC Makati, Kabisig ng Kalahi, and Rawang Elementary School, this agreement symbolized a shared commitment to sustaining the program and its mission to uplift children through proper nutrition and education.
As part of the ceremonial “milk toast,” children raised their glasses to a healthier tomorrow, followed by a nutritious meal of munggo. The joy on their faces was unmistakable as they received toys from RCM’s Last Angel Gift Giving program, led by IPP Bing Matoto. To add to the smiles, five dozen pairs of slippers, a thoughtful donation from Rtn. Taba and Baby Samson, were distributed to the children, giving them comfort for their journeys ahead. With each meal served, each toy handed out, and each promise of better days made, RC Makati reaffirmed its commitment to creating sustainable change.
The day’s activities culminated in a fellowship lunch hosted by PP Freddie and Jojo Borromeo at Weshley’s in Tanay.
